Turkey: Opposition opens government new credit to overcome terror
Terror problem has been the main headache for Turkey for the last 20 years. Several administrations to include the current Ak Party (AKP) government have failed to bring a solution to the issue which has cost tens of thousands of lives, both soldiers and civil citizens.
AKP government tried to start an initiative which it called the Kurdish Opening which was later revised to Democratic Opening and din not manage to accomplish a happy end either. On the contrary it received so much criticism for managing the process in an capable manner and had to step back.
Since then hundreds of lives – mostly members of the terror organization as well as soldiers and citizens – have come to an end due to terror acts undertaken by the organization and operations by the security forces.
Today it can be seen however that the AKP government is up to giving it another try and thus has re-started the initiative within a plan. Within the framework of their action plan they have started negotiations with the leader of the terror organization, who has been in prison, serving life sentence for some time, as he has proved to be very influential on the organization even though he is in jail.
This has certainly received much criticism again from the patriot front meaning opposition and media and some NGOs etc not to forget a considerable portion of the voters.
Right at that moment an interesting message was delivered by the main opposition party that took many by surprise.
Main opposition Republican People’s Party leader Kemal KILICDAROGLU said they were issuing the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) new credit to solve the terror problem in Turkey despite all the mistakes made in the past.
KILICDAROGLU went on to say “We don’t want people killed in this country. We don’t want any of our citizens hurt. We can overcome this problem with intelligence, logic, common sense and historical accumulation. Despite all the mistakes it has made in the past, we are issuing the AKP new credit. So solve the problem.”
He also added that casualties had not been reported due to clashes with suspected members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party because it was wintertime and reminded that that terrorism had ended also emphasizing that the same picture was seen every winter. According to CHP leaderThe Turkish Parliament is the only way of solving this problem.
The CHP leader also suggested Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan should follow an open and honest policy to solve the terror problem, adding that the government had not been following adetermined and consistent policy in the last 10 years.
