President Musenevi calls on Turkish businesspeople to invest in Uganda

Speaking at a meeting organized by the Turkish Confederation of Businessmen and Industrialists (TUSKON) in the capital of Kampala, where representatives from 25 firms in Turkey met with more than 400 Ugandan businesspeople, Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni called on Turkey’s businesspeople to use the rich business opportunities of Uganda and to invest in the local production fields of the country.

Touching upon the Turkey-Africa summit which was held on August 18-21, 2008 in Istanbul with the participation of representatives from fifty African countries, Museveni said, “By organizing this conference Turkey showed its interest in Africa.”

For his part, Uganda’s Industry and Trade Minister Amelia Kyambadde said that Uganda considered Turkey as a strategic partner, as well as a great foreign investor. Stressing that the amount of bilateral trade between the two countries has been doubled in the last five years, TUSKON Chairman Mustafa Gunay also said that Turkey aimed to increase this amount to $500 million.
