DAVUTOGLU_FMAs Turkey is heading for the general deputy elections on June 7th, polls Show the almighty AK PARTY currently in power is not as comfortable with likely results, as it used to be in past.

AKP (AK Party) led by Mr. Erdoğan who stepped up to the presidential position only a short while ago has won several and fact all the elections it has run for so far and still seems invincible. This said however, the ruling faces a possibility of not being able to get the votes necessary to form a majority government for the first time in 12 years.

This would be a nightmare for AKP and the president as a coalition government to be formed by 2 hostile parties namely CHP (Republican People’s Party) led by Kemal KILIÇDAROĞLU and MHP (Nationalist People’s Party) led by Devlet BAHÇELİ could give the current ruling group a real hard time by bringing the corruption charges claimed to have been committed by some members of said group, to the agenda again.

On the other hand it is a fact that the country has been badly governed for several years at least. The economy is not in a healthy situation as reflected by the government officials and Turkey is not far from entering an economic bottleneck which would be major disadvantage in all aspects including the flow of foreign capital out of the country as well.

Then again it is another fact that the leading party and Mr. Erdoğan who has total control over the party, hence the government and the president has spent much effort to shrink several democratic rights to ensure a reduced opposition from all parties (not only political) they consider to be hostile.

On the other hand CHP in particular have come up with truly interesting and attractive promises mostly concerning improvement in people’s economic situations to ensure a more comfortable and humanly life. Obviously this move has contributed to the expectations of said party as observed by poll companies so far.

But it goes without saying the worst nightmare for the ruling party is the possibility for HDP (People’s Democratic Party) to pass the ten percent threshold to win seats in the parliament. It this comes true, the possibility of forming a majority government – like so far – could be a dream for the ruling party.

All these factors put together however seem to have influenced the voters in a direction where AKP cannot take a crushing victory over its competitors for granted this time. A coalition government to be formed by referred 4 parties could be in question and time will show who will team up with who in this regard.

All in all there is one reality we need to mention in any case. Coming election on June 7th may be the most critical ever in the country’s history as it may lead to major changes and developments the country may regret in the future.
