Report: Turkey’s Consumer Price Index, March 2014

INFLATIONBased on report by Turkish Statistical Institute Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 1.13% in March 2014.

A rise in general index was realized in CPI (2003=100) on the previous month by 1.13%, on December of the previous year by 3.57%, on same month of the previous year by 8.39% and on the twelve months moving averages basis by 7.70% in March 2014.

The highest monthly increase was 2.49% in clothing and footwear

The indices rose for food and non-alcoholic beverages 2.10%, for hotels, cafes and restaurants 1.33%, for miscellaneous goods and services 1.20%, for furnishings and household equipment 0.90%.

The only monthly decrease was 0.02% in alcoholic beverages and tobacco

In March 2014, the index declined only for alcoholic beverages and tobacco amongst the main groups by 0.02%.

The highest annual increase was 13.74% in transportation

Hotels, cafes and restaurants (12.51%), food and non-alcoholic beverages (10.12%), education (9.98%), recreation and culture (7.97%) were the other main groups where high annual increases were realized.

The highest monthly increase was 1.54% in TR21 (Tekirdağ, Edirne, Kırklareli)

The highest increases in CPI were recorded in TRA2 (Ağrı, Kars, Iğdır, Ardahan) region (4.79%) compared with the December of the previous year, TRA1 (Erzurum, Erzincan, Bayburt) region (9.53%) compared with the same month of the previous year and in TRC1 (Gaziantep, Adıyaman, Kilis) region (9.29%) on the twelve months moving averages basis.

In March 2014 within average prices of 432 items in the index, average prices of 49 items remained unchanged while average prices of 297 items increased and average prices of 86 items decreased.
