Report: Foreign Trade Statistics of Turkey for December 2013

You will find below Turkey’s Foreign Trade Statistics for December 2013.  The report was prepared by TUIK.

Exports increased by 4.9% and imports increased by 16.7%

According to the provisional data, produced with the cooperation of the Turkish Statistical Institute and the Ministry of Customs and Trade, in December 2013; exports were 13 220 Million Dollars with a 4.9% increase and imports were 23 137 Million Dollars with a 16.7% increase compared with December 2012.

Foreign trade deficit increased by 37.3%

At the same month, foreign trade deficit increased by 37.3% from 7 222 Million Dollars to 9 917 Million Dollars.

In December 2013, exports coverage imports was 57.1%, while it was 63.6% in December 2012.

Seasonally and calendar adjusted exports decreased by 2.3% and imports increased by 1.9% compared with previous month. Calendar adjusted exports increased by 4.9% and imports increased by 12.5% compared with December 2012.

Exports to the European Union (EU-28) increased by 6.6%

As compared with the same month of the previous year, exports to the EU-28 increased by 6.6% from 4 953 Million Dollars to 5 279 Million Dollars. The proportion of the EU countries was 39.9% in December 2013, while it was 39.3% in December 2012.

In December 2013, the main partner country for exports was Iraq with 1 224 Million Dollars and increased by 19.4%. For exports, Iraq was followed by Germany (1 161 Million Dollars), the United Kingdom (719 Million Dollars) and Italy (571 Million Dollars).

For December 2013, the top country for Turkey’s imports was Germany (2 477 Million Dollars), records for imports range from Russia (2 434 Million Dollars), China (2 145 Million Dollars) and Italy (1 126 Million Dollars).

Vehicles other than railway are forefront in exports according to chapters

For December 2013, “vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling-stock, parts thereof” has the highest value exported at 1 482 Million Dollars and then, “boilers, machineries and mechanical appliances, parts thereof” (1 170 Million Dollars), “electrical machineries and equipments, parts there of” (912 Million Dollars) and “iron and steel” (869 Million Dollars).

Mineral fuels and oils are forefront in imports according to chapters

At the same period, the top categories for imports were “mineral fuels and oils” (5 218 Million Dollars) and then “boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances” (3 130 Million Dollars), “iron and steel” (1 804 Million Dollars), “vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling-stock, parts thereof” (1 665 Million Dollars) and “electrical machineries and equipments, parts there of” (1 647 Million Dollars).
