Following Öcalan’s historic call on March 21 for the withdrawal, as a result of the ongoing efforts to find a peaceful solution to the Kurdish issue, the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) will start withdrawing from Turkish soil on May 8th 2013.

Murat Karayılan, the senior leader at the PKK base of the Kandil Mountains in northern Iraq has announced the armed members of the terror organization are scheduled to start leaving Turkish territory on 8 May.

In the press meeting, Karayılan also emphasized that any military operation targeting the militants would delay the withdrawal and the militants would retaliate.

Based on the report by Fırat News Agency, PKK has formulated the conditions for a problem-free withdrawal and its militants will use their usual route during the withdrawal in an organized and disciplined way with their own initiatives. The militants are also expected to avoid any clashes

Also based on reports from several sources the withdrawing militants will be deployed to “southern Kurdistan (which corresponds to northern Iraq). Karayılan has also said they expect understanding from the Iraqi authorities, and particularly from the autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). Karayılan has not failed to add “The Turkish military should show a similar sensitivity, avoiding any provocative military action in northern Iraq”.

It is understood that the process is to be finalized soonest possible and in secrecy.
