Opposition: AKP putting people at risk for short-term interests

Turkey’s main opposition head, Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has criticized government’s regional policies, and referred to their efforts making the analogy “a surrogate mother for new formations in the Middle East”.

While explaining his party’s concerns over the peace process at a press meeting, he tried to make clear why his Republican People’s Party (CHP) had so far refused to be part of the ongoing efforts. In addition to domestic concerns regarding the Justice and Development Party’s (AKP) motives, which he said were politically driven, Kılıçdaroğlu also refrred toTurkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s recent policies in the region – namely policies regarding Syria and northern Iraq.

He said “These are moves that would cause obligatory wars to set borders in the medium term. Ak Parti is acting as a surrogate mother for new formations in the region, and putting the people of our own country as well as the region at risk, for short-term interests”.

The opposition leader also accused the government of being insincere and politically motivated in its attempts to resolve the Kurdish issue, and emphasized his party’s ambition to establish a peace, both perpetual societal in the country.

He added “Our party (CHP) supports all measures that we consider sincere and will result in healthy consequences towards a perpetual peace. Nevertheless, you cannot expect us to support deceptions aiming for personal interests”.
