Opposition leader plays voice recording about an alleged corruption scandal
It seems as if the powerful PM of Turkey could be in real trouble now provided he cannot persuade his voters that a leaked voice recording (allegedly) between PM and son is nothing but a plot against him. The reason is a discussion is heard allegedly between the prime minister and his son on their plan to hide $1 billion cash stashed at several houses.
So far, the Prime Minister has almost always managed to avoid corruption accusations (and others) aimed at him personally (as well as AK Party). However this time the corruption scandal that was brought to light by the police and several recordings on the internet seem to be a true challenge for him.
On the other hand the opposition party looks determined to make the best out of this alleged scandal. In fact, Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu played the leaked voice recording between Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his son Bilal, During his party’s parliamentary group meeting on Tuesday afternoon.
The new voice recording published online on Monday night, an alleged discussion is heard between the prime minister and his son on their plan to hide $1 billion cash stashed at several houses. Kılıçdaroğlu slammed Erdoğan in his harsh speech during the group meeting.
In the new voice recording, Erdoğan and his son Bilal allegedly discuss during five wiretapped phone conversations on plans how to hide huge sums of cash on the day when police raided a number of venues as part of a corruption investigation that has implicated sons of three Turkish ministers, businessmen and chief of the state bank. The voice recording is the latest in a series of leaked phone conversations of embattled Erdoğan, who has portrayed the graft investigation as a plot to overthrow his government.
