84 of the 155 Kurdish Peshmerga fighters from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq arrived at Sanliurfa Airport on a Turkish Airlines flight at a 1.10am on Wednesday morning and travelled to Suruc district on the border to wait for the remaining troops to join them after their land transport en route to Kobane to fight against the IS together with local Kurdish fighters who have been defending the town for over a month.

The second group crossed the border into Turkey from Habur Border Gate at about 5.45am on Wednesday, and were welcomed by a crowd. The police used tear-gas to disperse the crowd that gathered on the route of the transported Peshmerga forces. The convoy, which set out from Arbil province in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq in the afternoon of Tuesday, consisted of about 40 vehicles that included long-ranges, armoured jeeps, and lorries.
