FM Davutoğlu: Resources of Cyprus belong to all Cypriots without discrimination

davutogluTurkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu has reiterated Turkey’s position on conflict surrounding the natural resources of the eastern Mediterranean and said all natural resources of the Cyprus island belong to all Cypriots without discrimination.

“We are at a historical turning point in Cyprus,” Davutoğlu told reporters after his meeting with Turkish Cypriot Foreign Minister Hüseyin Özgürgün, adding that UN-mediated peace talks to reunify the long-divided island continue and Turkish Cypriot side is displaying very constructive approach while making every effort for comprehensive and enduring peace in the island.

He said he was also briefed by Özgürgün on the latest situation of the peace talks and reiterated that Turkey will continue to lend its support to the negotiations.

Both foreign ministers also discussed Greek Cypriot’s drilling activities during their talks in Ankara.

Davutoğlu said Turkey’s position on this is very clear: It is against the international law to unilaterally start drilling activities without completing UN-mediated peace talks between Turkish and Greek Cypriots.

Davutoğlu said natural resources could be exploited by a two founding communities of a new federal state in Cyprus, adding that all resources of the island belong to both communities.
