The importance of Turkey has been endorsed again by a top important politician, namely Van der Linden, former Pace president.
Mr. Van der Linden stated in an interview that Turkey was extremely important for the future of European continent.

The former president of the Senate of the Dutch Parliament and former president of the Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE) Senator Rene van der Linden went on to say;

“Turkey has committed himself to be part of European accession process, and they have done a lot to make himself ready for the accession process. All the members of the EU promised to go positive behaviour in this process, and they signed agreement for accession, not for special partnership. So it is not fair if some member states of the EU now change their mind. They obstruct accession of Turkey to the union. Of course both parts have to fulfill their commitments. In my mind, Turkey is extremely important for the future of European continent”.

He said although there might be ups and downs in the interest of the parties on the way to integration, such togetherness would be for the benefit of the European Community as well.

Mr Van der Linden also added that the EU was in difficult economic position currently and he was sure that after that difficult period there would be new challenge, each crisis would bring Europe further and it was necessary to have crisis from time to time”. He did not fail to enhance his opinions with a proverb and said “Let’s use a proverb that goes never waste a good crisis”.
