Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Monday that he proposed a new initiative which would bring together the least developed and the developed countries for global peace and security in the informal meeting of foreign ministers of G20 countries held in Los Cabos city of Mexico.

LOS CABOS- After the meeting of G20, Davutoglu assessed his talks in Los Cabos, saying that G20 was an organization that would assume important roles in this critical period.

Davutoglu said he proposed in the meeting that a gathering between the most developed 20 economies, G20 and the least developed 47 economies of the world be held. “We have made a new initiative on bringing together these two mechanisms. I offered that a new mechanism should be formed to get rid of inequalities between the developed and the least developed countries. It was approved in the meeting. We hope that such a mechanism will be formed in the coming period,” he said.

Replying to a question on a meeting about Syria that will be held in Tunisia on February 24, Davutoglu recalled that Turkey has been calling Syrian administration to end its fight against its own people at every platform for one year. The failure of the U.N. Security Council to pass a resolution on Syria should not misdirect Syrian administration, he said.

“Syrian administration has been conducting a fight against its own people. It must be stopped as soon as possible. We are determined to give a clear message for more concrete steps in regard to the matter in the meeting that will be held in Tunisia,” he said.

Davutoglu said he hoped that UN Security COuncil members would make a positive response this time to the call that would be made in Tunisia. Turkey would keep taking necessary steps assisting Syrian people, he said.

Touching on nuclear talks that are planned to be held between Iran and P5 1 (five permanent members of the UN Security Council, the United States, Russia, China, Britain and France, as well as Germany), Davutoglu said that the latest developments were positive. Davutoglu said Iranian party’s announcement that it was ready for the meeting and its statement that the meeting could be held in Istanbul were pleasing and important developments, stating that he had a meeting with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton on the matter in Mexico.

Davutoglu said they hoped that parties would come together with a sound will and hold talks without interruption till a solution was reached.

Later Turkish Foreign Minister Davutoglu left Mexico for British capital of London that will host a conference on Somalia.
