Babacan: Turkish economy has provided 6 million jobs since 2009

BABACAN2With a consistently growing economy, Turkey created employment for 6 million people since 2009, according to Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan.

Speaking at a session held by the Institute of International Finance (IFF) in New York while attending the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, Babacan said that one of the most notable economic accomplishments during the last 12 years was the rapid growth of Turkey’s GDP, reaching USD 820 billion in 2013 figures increasing from USD 230 billion in the year 2002.

“The last 5-6 years saw a rapid rise in employment as the Turkish economy created 6 million jobs since 2009”, Turkey’s Deputy Prime Minister said while answering a question, adding that 1.2 million jobs were provided during the last year alone. “Our healthy economic growth leads to more jobs”, he noted.

Turkey’s GDP grew by 4 percent in 2013, while the growth rate in the first half of this year stood at 3.3 percent.
