Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that the deployment of Patriot missiles on the Turkey-Syria border would not make any contribution to peace thus bear serious risks and will result instability

In reply to comments from the Russian side NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said “the missiles are for defensive purposes.”

Rasmussen told Lavrov that the missiles to be deployed were only for defensive purposes which denied Syrian cliams that the Patriot anti-aircraft missiles Turkey wanted to deploy at its border with Syria was just a new provocation.
