An article about Gülen movement and Turkey

"Share this post on social media, spread the news"

GULEN MOVEMENT (as it was called at the time) showed how dangerous it could be (and was) for the country when Turkey faced a coup attempt on 15 July 2016. The official sources declared the attempt was put into effect by Gulen supporters (actually followers would be a better word) in the military. The attempt was not successful and there were many arrests to account for the incident in the following days (and months and years actually). The process is still in progress at the time of this update.

The interesting part is the secular wing in Turkey (and millions belonging to this group) had INSISTENTLY tried to draw attention to the danger imposed by this “so said movement”, stating the ulitmate goal of the movement was to change the regime and turn Turkey into a “non-secular” state.

The movement referred to as HIZMET HAREKETİ (Service Movement) by all the suppoters of ruling party (Ak Party) at the time and now called “FETÖ Terror Organization” could have reached its target if a confrontation between Turkey’s current president (PM at the time) and Gülen had not broken up at the time. The reason is the organization had taken control of many (top) important posts within the state and the government and was ready to take over the country, before long. Again the interesting part is the secular wing (and millions) who warned the administration against this major threat were accused of being unfair and lacking respect for the honorable service movement. The bottom line is, time has shown who was right and who was wrong but it was Turkey to pay the bill. (15 Jan 2019)

AN ARTICLE ABOUT GULEN MOVEMENT AND TURKEY

FETHULLAH GULENIn a powerful and to be more important secular country like Turkey, FETHULLAH GULEN, a controversial Muslim preacher and “inspirer” of the largest charter school network in the world (probably) has always been on the agenda of the country during the past decades.

In fact, during the political turmoil Turkey has been going through for the past few months GULEN MOVEMENT (called after his name) has been witnessed as the most powerful opponent for almighty Turkish PM Erdoğan after a serious conflict has broken up between the two groups regarding the radical measures taken by the government to close down prep schools run by members of the movement all around the country.

Until the first clashes on the media between the two groups, nobody would have said GULEN could be such a powerful headache for Erdoğan whose authority was known to be indestructible. But as the conflict moved ahead, everybody was astonished to witness how powerful the movement had grown all along, with all their members in the judiciary especially as well as the police.

Currently, the country is going through an implausible power struggle between these two rivals (once partners) and Erdoğan’s authority and hence prestige seems to be shaken right from the roots.

This being the case, for those who would be curious to know more about Gülen we would like to suggest an informative article by Claire Berlinski an American author who lived in Turkey for a while.

Who Is Fethullah Gülen? (by Claire Berlinsski)

Controversial Muslim preacher, feared Turkish intriguer—and “inspirer” of the largest charter school network in America

With the American economy in shambles, Europe imploding, and the Middle East in chaos, convincing Americans that they should pay attention to a Turkish preacher named Fethullah Gülen is an exceedingly hard sell. Many Americans have never heard of him, and if they have, he sounds like the least of their worries. According to his website, he is an “authoritative mainstream Turkish Muslim scholar, thinker, author, poet, opinion leader and educational activist who supports interfaith and intercultural dialogue, science, democracy and spirituality and opposes violence and turning religion into a political ideology.” The website adds that “by some estimates, several hundred educational organizations such as K–12 schools, universities, and language schools have been established around the world inspired by Fethullah Gülen.” The site notes, too, that Gülen was “the first Muslim scholar to publicly condemn the attacks of 9/11.” It also celebrates his modesty.

Yet there is a bit more to the story….
